I Died So That Big Bird & Co Could Live!

Some "Fun Facts":

* The federal government gave the CPB a grant of $444.1 million in 2012.

* Between 2003 and 2006, Sesame Street made a net profit of more than $211 million from toys and consumer product sales.

* The former President & CEO of Sesame Workshop and current President & CEO of NPR, Gary Knell, earned $956,513 in 2008. That's more than Obama, Biden, and Pelosi earned in their public capacities in 2008...COMBINED.  He earned $988,456 in 2011.

* Sesame Street received $1,067,532 from the Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Stimulus Act of 2009 and reported that it created "1.47 jobs."

* Sesame Workshop Executive Vice-President, Sherrie Westin, who earned $463,892 in 2011, has admitted that it doesn't need government subsidies.

* The actor, who plays Big Bird (Carroll Spinney), doesn’t have a salary that puts him in the 1%, but he’s not far off: Spinney made $314,072 in 2011.

* The president and CEO of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, according to the CPB’s tax forms, Patricia De Stacy Harrison, earned $361,895 in 2011.

* The President and CEO of PBS, Paula Kerger, earned $669,260 in 2011.  Its COO, Michael Jones, earned $477,296.  Its CFO, treasurer, and senior vice-president, Barbara Landes, earned $402,355.  Katherine Lauderdale, PBS' senior vice-president and general counsel, earned $381,855.

* The current president and CEO of Sesame Workshop, H. Melvin Ming, earned $584,572 in 2011.  Among other salary standouts at Sesame:  Lewis Bernstein ($406,387), Terry Fitzpatrick ($439,741), Myung Kang-Huneke ($389,005), Susan Kolar ($401,425), Miranda Barry ($397,175), Maura Regan ($379,733), Joseph Mazzarino ($556,165), Caralynn Sandorf ($354,476), and Anita Stewart ($455,369).

Yet, President Obama & other Progs believe that we should borrow more money from China, Japan, and Wall Street in order to prop up an enterprise that earns hundreds of millions in profits and whose executives are part of the 1%.

And, some more "Fun Facts":

* Sesame Workshop reported assets in 2011 of $411,635,078.

* On its 2010 Form 990, SW reported owning $30,024,016 in securities, which included $5.6 million in “Hedge Funds”, $14.7 million in “Fund of Funds”, and $9.7 million in “Private Equity.”

* SW reported revenue of $133,042,300 in 2010.

* In 2010, it reported $46,930,656 in revenue from royalty income alone.

* In 2010, it paid out $64,453,033 in salaries, benefits, bonuses, and other compensation.

* In 2010, the total number of SW employees earning more than $100,000 in salary per year was 142 (33.4%) and the average pay of the top 21 (4.92%) was $403,767. It had 427 employees.

* Its Form 990 in 2009 reported lobbying expenses of $1 million a year. Its lobbying is carried out by Tracy Garrett, Director of Government Affairs at SW.

* With its taxpayer-funded grant money, SW works directly with the Communist Party of China and the People’s Liberation Army through its “One World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure” initiative.

* In 2010, the Center for Public Broadcasting reported $459,877,360 in revenue on its Form 990.

* The CPB's balance sheet shows $83,701,376 in assets plus another $25,104,805 of “other securities.” The "other securities" are later listed as “Promissory Note-Goldman Sachs."

But, again, President Obama believes that we should borrow money from Communist China to prop up  Big Public TV and its 1%.

If the taxpayers are ultimately going to be on the hook for Big Bird and Elmo, shouldn't your children get free stuffed animals? Why should you have to shell out more bucks for the "Made in China" crap to support the lavish lifestyles of these teatsucking "Princes and Princesses of Profit" and "Economic Royalists"?

@jeffemanuel “nothing says “I’ve completely lost control of this narrative” like embracing…a seven-foot-tall yellow-feathered multi-millionaire.”
