The Left's Response To #NYPD Assassinations? More Gun Control. No, Seriously!

It wasn't enough for Charlie Rangel to suffer one humiliation yesterday when he said that the protesters had never chanted 'What do we want?  DEAD COPS!!! When do we want it?  NOW!!!'  No, he had to double down on facepalm and argue that police unions 'should be focused on gun control instead of criticizing politicians following the murder of two policemen over the weekend.'

He said...

'They should be conducting interviews mourning those that they lost and their family, talking about how do insane people get firearms and not criticizing but seeing how we can stop insane people from getting an opportunity to get firearms to kill anybody...Two human beings were shot dead.  We should not be pointing fingers at the mayor of the city of New York.'

Rangel wasn't the only one trying to deflect the obvious connection between the protests and Ismail Abdullah Brinsley, who posted his motive for killing Officers Rafael Ramos and Weijian Liu on his Instagram account.  The NAACP also participated in the ritualistic 'Hey, don't look at the killer's proclaimed motives or the climate of hate that leaders from the White House to the Hood fermented! Let's focus on gun control, which wouldn't have prevented Brinsley!!!'

As one blog described it...

The left is working overtime in a desperate attempt to distance itself from the results of its own efforts to divide America and cause violence. Anyone with a somewhat level head knows full well race baiters like Al Sharpton, Eric Holder, Jesse Jackson and Barack Obama have been fueling the flames, giving a national platform to the absurd narrative that law enforcement kills people based on the color of their skin. And now that an individual who has been deeply involved in protests popping up in response to calls for gatherings led by the race baiters kills to police officers, the organizations backing said narratives are scrambling for excuses.
The following excuse put out by the NAACP takes the cake:
'These two killings…like so many other unfortunate incidences of gun violence, provide a stark example of the need for sensible gun control measures.  While some may suggest a causal link between these killings and the recent protests and activism focused on the serious issue of police violence against unarmed African Americans, we caution against escalating an already tense national state through rumor and conjecture.  Whatever motivation lay in the apparently troubled mind of the now deceased shooter of these officers, there is no connection between the peaceful protests of thousands of people of all races all over the country and, indeed, around the world, and this hideous act of violence.'
Really? I mean... REALLY?  The NAACP is going to blame guns and wash its hands of any race baiting connection here?
Unbelievable.

And, what gun control laws, pray tell, would have prevented this?

Brinsley was a convicted felon, who was prohibited from possessing a gun.  How'd that gun control law work out for ya?

Yes, if we didn’t have the 2nd, 4th, and 5th amendments, I suppose liberals could order the police to search every home without a warrant and take all guns.

The problem is, of course, that wouldn’t prevent guns from ending up in the hands of criminals. Who believes hoods in da ‘hood are going to run background checks?

But, even if liberals confiscated the 300 million guns in this country, they’d still have a huge problem because… If drugs and criminaliens can cross borders, so, too, can guns.

What are liberals going to do? Invent some Super-Duper Skymagnet that magically rips guns out of the hands of those illegally bring them into the country via the borders, ports, and coastline?

Are they really going to hermetically seal the borders and prevent all of those future Democratic voters from entering the country?

Like that is really going to ever happen.
