No True Scotsman, er, Trumpster Diver

They would have a lot more credibility if they evaluated their guy objectively and discussed his weaknesses as well as his strengths. I’m a Cruz or Rubio guy, but, they both have weaknesses I’m willing to discuss. Falling in love with any politician is unhealthy. BTW, I’m so happy you are back.

Not even if s/he promises you everything with sugar on top…and chocolate sprinkles…and marshmallows…and pistachios…and Oreo crumbles…and chocolate chunks…and Reese’s Pieces…and walnuts…and M&Ms…and chocolate whipped cream…and Irish coffee-flavoured whipped cream…and a cherry…no, make that three cherries on top…FOR FREE!

They will ONLY break your heart…unless, of course, he’s Calvin Coolidge. Occasionally, you might feel a tad let down, but in the end, your heart will not be completely broken.

Of course, this is a moot point. Coolidge has been dead for decades.

Coolidge favored the tariff and signed into law the highly restrictive Immigration Act of 1924, that throttled legal immigration to a trickle.

I didn't say he was perfect - for example, he supported the ridiculous Kellogg–Briand Pact of 1928, but he disdained farm subsidies, advocated for fair trade, he fought the unions and their illegal strikes, stood up for civil rights, lowed taxes, eliminated onerous regulation, reduced government spending by 40%, cut the deficit, reduced the national debt by $8,348,163,204.73 or 47.42%, helped create the Middle Class, reduced unemployment by 50% to 2.4%, expanded the economy dramatically to the point that the number of taxpayers earning between $10,000 dollars and $100,000 dollars increased by a staggering 84% and the number of taxpayers reporting income of less than $10,000 dollars fell. , etc.

Further, Silent Cal didn’t call a press conference every day to gloat about his REAL accomplishments. He just did them.

 The Devastating Depression Harding/Coolidge Inherited From Progressive Democrat, President Woodrow Wilson

Depression of January, 1920 - July, 1921

The 1920s started with extremely high tax rates and an economic depression.

Tax rates were massively increased in 1917 on all income levels.

1918 saw another increase in all rates.

Real GNP fell every year from 1919 to 1921 with a total fall of 16% over that three-year period.

GNP declined 6.9%.

18% deflation.

Wholesale prices fell by 36.8% (the worst since the Revolutionary War and worse than any year during the Great Depression).

* Unemployment spiked to 11.7%.

* The stock market fell by 47%.

* Business bankruptcies tripled.

* Business profits fell by 75%.

* Automobile production declined by 60%.

* Total industrial production declined by 30%.

******************************

What Harding/Coolidge Were Able To Achieve Even Given the 1920/21 Depression:

* HARDING (died in office during his first term) AND COOLIDGE CUT TAXES (Revenue Acts of 1921, 1924, and 1926)

* The combined top marginal normal and surtax rate fell from 73% to 58% in 1922, and then to 50% in 1923 (income over $200,000 dollars).

* In 1924, the top tax rate fell to 46% (income over $500,000 dollars).

The top rate was just 25% (income over $100,000 dollars) from 1925 to 1928, and then fell to 24% in 1929.

* The GNP averaged 7% from 1924 to 1929.

* Between 1922 and 1929, real GNP grew at an annualised rate of 4.7% and the unemployment rate fell from 6.7% to 3.2%.

* Between 1922 and 1928, the average income for those earning more than $100,000 increased by 15%, but the number of “rich” quadrupled.

* In the same period, the number of taxpayers earning between $10,000 dollars and $100,000 dollars increased by a staggering 84% and the number of taxpayers reporting income of less than $10,000 dollars fell.

* Unemployment fell by more than 50% and by 1923, unemployment was 2.4%.

* But tax rates are only part of the story. Tax cuts increase revenue. Spending more than total tax receipts will always lead to deficits.

* Harding and Coolidge understood that government spending retards growth.

* Harding and Coolidge cut spending by 40%, which was $6.3 billion in 1920, to $3.2 billion in 1922.

In 1920, the national debt was $25,952,456,406.16.

*In 1928, the national debt was $17,604,293,201.43.

Even though tax rates were cut, the national debt decreased by $8,348,163,204.73 or 47.42%.

* Income increased, especially for the lowest tax brackets.

'...and signed into law the highly restrictive Immigration Act of 1924, that throttled legal immigration to a trickle.'

Oh, the humanity!  Since I am a hardliner on illegal immigration, what I wouldn't do for the 1924 Act!?!?  WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE?

Yeah, sure, I might not have become a citizen, but far worse things have happened...like Clinton I, Bush II, Obama I, Clinton II as Sec of State in charge of, among other things, Benghazi, McVain, GOPe, SJWs, and so forth...and WWI, WWII, the Blitzkrieg, Clement Attlee, Tony Blair, Sir Peter Mandelson, Gordon Brown, Ed Miliband, Ed Balls, Jeremy Corbyn, and an intentional plan to massively increase immigrants to 'rub the Tories' noses into multiculturalism and diversity, etc.

Why do you think that I CHOSE to become an American even though I wasn’t a member of the Lucky American Sperm Club?

America would still be the shining city on a hill and, across The Pond, I would jealously look at your rights and privileges...hoping one day to enjoy the same in my homeland or elsewhere.

I'd also be shaking my head at 'REAL Americans', who hate their country even though they would never have it so good any other place on Earth.

It is sad to see 'REAL Americans' not even being grateful for being spawned on American soil while embracing our enemies and alienating our friends.

BTW, Melania Trump is a naturalised citizen, but she's a 'REAL Americans'. I guess that's because she will be voting for her husband.  I'm sure that the distinctions can be found - SOMEWHERE - in the Rules of Trump Club...

Perhaps, in the
No True Scotsman Trumpster
chapter.

Another epic rant, Sophie.

Much appreciated, as your arguments help keep me (and I'm sure many others) feeling relatively sane and grounded in reality in this increasingly insane, irrational world.
